Datong Airport Terminal

Although it is a middle-sized terminal, the building obtains a sense of openness by concentrating most of the functional areas under the upper waiting halls. Inspired by the gabled roof of traditional Datong buildings, the terminal is dominated by an asymmetrical slopping truss and gains a large column-free interior space. The departing hall, waiting hall and baggage claim hall are arranged close to the spacious concourse lit by skylights beyond the ridge. Visual obstructions between airside and landside are also minimized to keep an orienting view. Faced with metal plates, the roofs still features an image far away from typical airport terminal appearance that echoes the past and developed from the modern architectural and structural manners.
