Suzhou Wujiang Middle School

The design of this time-honored school focus on three principles: to arouse respects for traditions, to stimulate creativity by equal communications and to keep the nature of students. Each teaching cluster is arranged to be a courtyard to make the typically introverted classrooms open to the courtyard. The boundaries of grades and classes are blurred to make the teaching activities much more public, so that students could exchange their ideas. Since most of the buildings are equipped with enough public spaces, the “learning spaces outside classroom” make it very easy to study in anywhere of the campus. The sense of traditional Chinese garden is catalyzed by abstracted traditional elements in the campus with its clean, modernist expression.
